01

Write the decision.

For example: Do we need to adjust our capacity to meet the delivery deadlines? This question defines what information is important and how frequently it needs to be considered.

02

Define the unambiguous indicator.

Document the name, formula, unit, period, and exclusions. Two people should arrive at the same result using the same source.

03

Identify the origin and the responsible party.

A reliable number has a recognizable source and someone who verifies its quality. It also indicates when it was updated.

04

Add context.

Compare against a relevant baseline and review the causes. A single variation doesn’t explain what happened, nor does it suggest what action should be taken.

05

Close the cycle with an action.

During the review meeting, record the decision, the person responsible, and the next follow-up. The board assists when a conversation or practice changes.
